A Dark Time of Hopelessness

Over 30 years ago I was at the lowest period of my life! My marriage had ended in divorce. My children were married and on their own. My mother was dying of lung cancer. I was very stressed at work with many new changes. I knew that I was in trouble physically, mentally, and emotionally. I was even having thoughts of suicide. The thought that one of my children would find me if I took that action so frightened me that I finally called a friend and confessed what I was thinking. She convinced me to get help immediately. I did receive help medically, help at work, help from a Christian counselor, and help from my pastor and church friends.

I had grown up going to church from a very young age. The scripture in James 5:14 kept coming to my mind. “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” This helped me begin to heal. For about two years I continued with these positive steps forward, becoming stronger and stronger in every way. The way back is not always quick, healing takes time. I had to give myself the gift of time.

One of my newest friends was in a Christian group called Women’s Aglow which I knew nothing about. This group later became Aglow International. I have now been part of this wonderful organization for over 20 years. How do I describe this group now? In a very personal way. “Next to my own personal salvation thru Jesus Christ, my family, my church family, Aglow is the best thing I ever did for myself.” Why? Because through Aglow International God has opened doors that only He could open. Opportunities to help others who might find themselves in a dark pit like the one when I was hopeless.

To continue to grow in my relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is a true treasure of life. I realize that the main purpose in life is to praise and worship God and I rejoice to be a small part of His kingdom locally, nationally, internationally, and for eternity.

My life verse from the Holy Scriptures: “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
